Dynamic and pallet flow racking: FIFO rotation by gravity

Dynamic racking, or pallet flow racking, is a high-density storage system with slightly inclined roller or wheel tracks: loads move by gravity, in a controlled way, from the loading side to the unloading side. It is the go-to solution for high-turnover operations that require strict FIFO rotation.

How does pallet flow racking work?

The inclined lanes let goods be loaded at one end and advance toward the exit end under their own weight. This creates a FIFO (first in, first out) flow and physically separates loading from unloading.

System variants: rollers or wheels

Pallet flow racking can be configured with two types of flow track, depending on the weight and type of pallet:

  • With rollers: a robust track, well suited to moving pallets and heavy loads whose deck boards run parallel to the flow (Europallet, CHEP 4-way and others).

  • With wheels (skate wheels): a more versatile and economical track, well suited to pallets whose deck boards run perpendicular to the flow (GMA or white pallets and others).

DEVA defines the most suitable variant for your product and your application.

Key features

  • Roller or wheel configuration: adapts to the weight and type of pallet you use.

  • FIFO system: the first pallet in is the first pallet out.

  • Continuous flow: ideal for perishable or fast-moving consumer goods.

  • Separate loading and unloading: reduces interference between operators and keeps the operation orderly.

  • Space and time savings: optimizes handling and increases warehouse capacity.

  • Excellent stock control: supports the natural rotation of inventory.

Benefits · Impact on your operation

Faster outbound flow, better product rotation, less interference in order picking and greater efficiency in high-turnover warehouses.

Ideal applications

Food and beverage, perishable products, consumer goods and any operation with demanding FIFO rotation; also suitable for cold rooms thanks to its compactness.

Frequently asked questions

What is pallet flow racking?
It is high-density dynamic racking with inclined roller or wheel tracks that move the load by gravity, operating on the FIFO (first in, first out) principle.
Does pallet flow racking use rollers or wheels?
It can be configured with rollers or with skate wheels; DEVA defines the variant based on the weight and type of load.
What type of product is pallet flow racking best suited for?
For perishable and high-turnover products that require strict FIFO rotation and continuous flow.
