Optimize your warehouse space without expanding your building

When your warehouse runs out of room, expanding the building or moving the operation to a new, larger location is not always the most cost-effective answer. Most operations have hidden capacity in their height and in their aisles. At DEVA we start from an analysis of your layout to turn wasted cubic meters into usable storage positions, increasing installed capacity without adding floor space.

High-density racking at great height with stretch-wrapped pallets, a shuttle inside the lane and a reach truck in the aisle

More positions in the same space: high density

Block storage systems multiply your capacity: double-deep selective racking, drive-in/drive-through (up to 85% space utilization depending on the design), push-back (up to 6 pallets deep), pallet flow racking (dynamic), Pallet Shuttle, and selective or cantilever racking on mobile bases. They reduce aisles and increase the number of positions per square meter.

  • up to 85% space utilization with drive-in/drive-through
  • up to 6 pallets deep with push-back

How can you make the most of the available warehouse height?

  • Mezzanines and platform floors: double or triple your usable floor space without major civil works.

  • Picking tunnels and towers: use the upper levels for reserve storage and keep an order picking aisle at floor level.

  • Clad-rack warehouses: the racking supports the building and lets you store at great height.

Maximum density with automation

AS/RS with SRM stacker cranes, miniload systems and four-way shuttles (4WS) store at high density using the full height, reducing aisles and maximizing the available volume. For documents and small parts, mobile shelving eliminates fixed aisles and concentrates large volumes in less space.

The starting point: layout design

Optimizing space starts with a good layout. Our consulting and engineering team analyzes your flows and designs the arrangement that best balances capacity, accessibility and productivity.

Frequently asked questions

How can I increase my warehouse capacity without expanding it?
With high-density storage systems (drive-in, push-back, pallet flow, Pallet Shuttle, racking on mobile bases), vertical space utilization (mezzanines, picking tunnels and towers, clad-rack warehouses) and, with automation, AS/RS and shuttles that make the most of the height.
How much space can you recover?
It depends on the layout and the system: compact systems can reach up to ~85% space utilization, and mezzanines can double or triple your usable floor space. A diagnostic study determines the real potential.
Where does space optimization start?
With a layout design based on an analysis of your flows; it is the surest way to balance capacity and operation.
